报告题目:Design Automation for Microfluidics-Based Biochips

报告摘要:Advances in microfluidics technology offer exciting possibilities in the realm of enzymatic analysis, DNA analysis, proteomic analysis involving proteins and peptides, immunoassays, implantable drug delivery devices, and environmental toxicity monitoring. Microfluidics-based biochips are therefore gaining popularity for clinical diagnostics and other laboratory procedures involving molecular biology. As more bioassays are executed concurrently on a biochip, system integration and design complexity are expected to increase dramatically. This talk presents different actuation mechanisms for microfluidics-based biochips, as well as associated design automation trends and challenges. The underlying physical principles of eletrokinetics, electrohydrodynamics, and thermocapillarity are discussed. Next, the talk presents an overview of an integrated system-level design methodology that attempts to address key issues in the modeling, simulation, synthesis, testing and reconfiguration of digital microfluidics-based biochips. The top-down design automation will facilitate the integration of fluidic components with microelectronic component in next-generation system-on-chip designs.

Krishnendu Chakrabarty received the B.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Kharagpur, India, in 1990, and the M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA, in 1992 and 1995, respectively. He is currently the William H. Younger Distinguished Professor of Engineering with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Duke University, Durham, NC, USA, where he is also a Professor of Computer Science. His current research interests include testing and design-for-testability of integrated circuits, digital microfluidics, biochips, and cyberphysical systems, optimization of enterprise systems, and smart manufacturing. Prof. Chakrabarty was a recipient of the National Science Foundation Early Faculty (CAREER) Award, the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, the Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany, the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN OF INTEGRATED CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS Donald O. Pederson Best Paper Award in 2015, 11 best paper awards at major IEEE conferences, and the IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award in 2015. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE DESIGN AND TEST OF COMPUTERS from 2010 to 2012 and ACM Journal on Emerging Technologies in Computing Systems from 2010 to 2015. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON VERY LARGE SCALE INTEGRATION (VLSI) SYSTEMS. He is also an Associate Editor of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMPUTERS, the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON BIOMEDICAL CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS, the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MULTISCALE COMPUTING SYSTEMS, and ACM Transactions on Design Automation of Electronic Systems. He serves as an Editor of the Journal of Electronic Testing: Theory and Applications. He is a fellow of ACM, and a Golden Core Member of the IEEE Computer Society.

Tsung-Yi Ho received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 2005. He is a Professor with the Department of Computer Science of National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. His research interests include design automation and test for microfluidic biochips and nanometer integrated circuits. He has presented 10 tutorials and contributed 10 special sessions in ACM/IEEE conferences, all in design automation for microfluidic biochips. He has been the recipient of the Invitational Fellowship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the Humboldt Research Fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and the Hans Fischer Fellow by the Institute of Advanced Study of the Technical University of Munich. He was a recipient of the Best Paper Awards at the VLSI Test Symposium (VTS) in 2013 and IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems in 2015. He served as a Distinguished Visitor of the IEEE Computer Society for 2013-2015, the Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Tainan Chapter for 2013-2015, and the Chair of the ACM SIGDA Taiwan Chapter for 2014-2015. Currently he serves as an ACM Distinguished Speaker, a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, and Associate Editor of the ACM Journal on Emerging Technologies in Computing Systems, ACM Transactions on Design Automation of Electronic Systems, ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems, IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration Systems, Guest Editor of IEEE Design & Test of Computers, and the Technical Program Committees of major conferences, including DAC, ICCAD, DATE, ASP-DAC, ISPD, ICCD, etc.
